Posture and Dowager Hump
By: Dr. Louise Bullard
Poor posture becoming a worsening problem? Dowager's hump is an excessive curvature of the spine. Usually, this occurs in the upper back. Often it is also simply called kyphosis, which is a forward curvature of the spine. Like many people with busy lifestyles, posture seems to take a back burner. Looking in the mirror you may notice that you are slouching and then over time it just seems to keep getting worse. Sitting at a desk most of the day or looking down at our phones can make aging happen much faster for our spine. Over time our muscle memory gets used to being hunched over and it cannot be corrected by itself. Corrective chiropractic care can make changes to your posture without the use of drugs or surgery. Correcting your posture is important to do before it gets worse and cannot be reversed. When seeing a specialized chiropractor they use an evidence-based approach to improve the curves in your spine, therefore improving your posture. This can be done pain free with specialized chiropractic manipulations and a specialized rehabilitation program. Chiropractic manipulations can be done with the use of the hands manually or with the use of an instrument.
